Members of the Campus Beautification Committee (CBC) at Stony Brook University have marked two recent student art installations with commemorative plaques. The plaques recognize both the contributions of the student artists and the ongoing impact of their work on campus.
The new plaques were placed at two library locations. One is in the Melville Library Central Reading Room, where student artist Anika Griffing, class of 2024, was present for an official recognition event. The other plaque marks an installation at the Health Sciences Library on East Campus. Both events included participation from library staff and employees who supported these projects.
According to CBC member and ART Tank founder David Ecker, “See and hear what CBC member and ART Tank founder David Ecker had to say to Griffing in a small plaque presentation.”
The Central Reading Room mural by Griffing is titled "For the Record." More information about this project can be found on Stony Brook University's website. Another project recognized is "United Dreams," an origami-themed artwork created by the Origami Club. This piece is now displayed at the Health Sciences Library and represents CBC’s first project on East Campus.
Both installations are intended to enhance public spaces for students, faculty, visitors, and community members who use university facilities.
