On October 17, a $10,000 donation was made by the Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce to the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" event. The presentation took place at the New York Cancer and Blood Center in Ronkonkoma. This contribution was generated from the community's involvement in the Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce Celebrity Softball Game held on July 28, 2024.
NSLS-II celebrates a decade of growth with new projects on horizon
The National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) is marking its 10th anniversary of operations on October 23, 2024. Since the facility's inception in 2014, it has expanded significantly, growing from six to 29 operational beamlines. Over the past decade, NSLS-II has received over 15,000 requests for beam time and hosted nearly 6,000 users.

Students in Dina Pinelli's fourth grade class at Edith L. Slocum Elementary School in the Connetquot Central School District celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by researching famous Hispanic people. The students learned about Pablo Picasso, Cesar Chavez, Oscar De La Hoya, Dolores Huerta, Celia Cruz, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sonia Sotomayor and Frida Kahlo. On their Chromebooks, students filled out a graphic organizer with important and interesting facts about the person. They then took their notes and filled in a flag which they decorated colorfully. The flags were then attached together and hung outside the classroom for all to view.
