Stony Brook University Hospital has been recognized as one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care by Healthgrades® for the tenth consecutive year. It remains the only hospital in New York State to receive this distinction from 2016 to 2025.

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals based on clinical outcomes, including risk-adjusted mortality and complications. This recognition follows Stony Brook University Hospital's achievement as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals for 2024, making it the sole recipient of this honor on Long Island. Stony Brook Southampton Hospital also shares in this acknowledgment. Healthgrades assesses approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide, focusing solely on patient outcomes.

Carol A. Gomes, Chief Executive Officer at Stony Brook University Hospital, stated, “These achievements reflect our steadfast commitment to the consistent delivery of outstanding clinical outcomes for critical services across the medical system enterprise — all for our patients, their families and the community.”

A recent analysis by Healthgrades indicated that if all hospitals performed similarly to five-star hospitals during the 2021-23 study period, an average of 224,958 lives could have been saved and 141,692 complications avoided.

Brad Bowman, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades, commented: “Healthgrades commends Stony Brook University Hospital for their clear commitment to delivering consistently superior patient outcomes in critical service areas.” He further praised the hospital’s leadership and dedication to clinical excellence.

Stony Brook University Hospital is a leading academic health center on Long Island with a range of specialized centers including heart, cancer, children’s health, neurosciences institutes, and more.
