Following the retirement of Judy Greiman in August, who served as chief deputy to the president and senior vice president of government and community relations for nine years, several leadership appointments were made as part of the transition plan for Greiman’s roles and responsibilities.

Stony Brook University Vice President for Advancement Justin Fincher will serve as interim chief deputy to the president and senior vice president of government and community relations effective August 26.

“Stony Brook’s trajectory of success and enviable accomplishments are the direct result of Judy’s hard work and heartfelt belief in excellent, affordable public higher education,” said Stony Brook Interim President Richard L. McCormick. “I have come to rely greatly on her wisdom and keen insights, knowing she always has Stony Brook’s best interests at heart.”

McCormick noted that Greiman will continue advising him in a consultancy role following her retirement.

Fincher will also serve as Stony Brook’s primary leadership, policy, and advocacy liaison to SUNY. He will continue to serve as executive director of the Stony Brook Foundation. “Justin brings a thoughtful, solutions-oriented approach to his work and is always quick to partner with colleagues in new and innovative ways, making him ideal for this critical work,” McCormick said.

In related leadership changes, Scott Barrett, who currently serves as senior associate vice president for advancement, has been appointed interim vice president for advancement. Tasheka Sutton-Young has been promoted to associate vice president of presidential initiatives; her role in the Office of the President will be expanded to include many internal duties that Greiman covered. Oversight for the Office of Equity and Access will move this academic year to Suzanne Shane, chief campus counsel.

A national search to permanently fill Greiman’s role will be launched in the coming months.
