WFHS junior selected for prestigious Juilliard Pre-College program

April Coppola President | William Floyd School District

Jackson Seifert, a junior at William Floyd High School, has been accepted into the Juilliard Pre-College program. This comprehensive conservatory-style music program is designed for students who demonstrate significant talent and ambition in music.

Seifert, who primarily plays bass and tenor trombone, is also proficient on the trumpet, bass trumpet, and euphonium. At Juilliard, he will have the opportunity to work with world-class musicians and faculty members to develop his technical skills while fostering creativity and intellectual curiosity. The program runs every Saturday from September through May at Juilliard in New York City.

Seifert will study privately with Weston Sprott, dean and director of the preparatory division at The Juilliard School and a trombonist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. His coursework will include music theory, ear training, music history, brass ensemble participation, and playing with the pre-college symphony orchestra.

Seifert's preparation for this opportunity included submitting three All-State auditions in May for bass trombone, tenor trombone, and bass jazz solo—receiving perfect scores on all three. Additionally, he won a scholarship at the beginning of summer and performed a trombone solo with the Northport Community Band during their "Families and Flags on the Fourth" event on Independence Day.

Beyond his musical achievements, Seifert is also a pitcher for the William Floyd varsity baseball team.

Congratulations to Jackson Seifert on this remarkable achievement.
