Zariel Macchia honored as three-time Gatorade player of the year

William Floyd High School senior Zariel Macchia has been named the 2024-25 Gatorade New York Girls Cross Country Player of the Year. This marks her third time receiving the Gatorade New York Player of the Year title, making her the first athlete from Long Island to achieve this honor thrice.

During a successful cross-country season, Macchia won several titles including the Suffolk County Class A Title, NYSPHSAA Class A State Title, NY State Federation Title, and U20 USATF Cross Country Championships. She also secured a top-three finish in the Foot Locker National Championships. Her achievements earned her various accolades such as Third Team All-America, All-State, All-Long Island, All-County, and All-League honors. Additionally, she was named Newsday Runner of the Year.

The Gatorade Player of the Year award is considered a top honor in high school sports. It recognizes outstanding high school athletes for their performance on the field, academic excellence, and community involvement. Macchia's award places her among an esteemed group of alumni that includes CEOs, coaches, and star athletes.

Zariel Macchia has attended William Floyd schools throughout her education journey.
