MLK portrait project exhibition returns to Suffolk County Community College

Kevin M. O’Connor Secretary | Suffolk County Community College

The Fifth Annual MLK Portrait Project exhibition will be displayed at Suffolk County Community College's Eastern Campus from January 29 to March 7, 2025. The event is set in the Lyceum Gallery within the Montaukett Learning Resource Center on the Riverhead Campus. A reception is scheduled for February 27 from 4 to 6 p.m., where refreshments will be available, and all are welcome.

This exhibition pays tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and highlights the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement through collaborative mosaic portraits created by local high school art students. It will showcase over fifteen large portraits measuring 48 x 48 inches each. Over the past four years, East End Arts (EEA) has worked with students from more than sixteen local high schools for this project. Proceeds from portrait sales will go towards supporting EEA’s Scholarship Fund.

The Suffolk County Community College’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will host two special programs alongside the exhibit.

Gallery hours are as follows:

- Monday – Thursday: 9 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

- Friday: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

- Saturday and Sunday: Closed

- Closed on President’s Day, February 17, 2025
