The Stony Brook Cancer Center has received a significant contribution of $1.25 million from the Betty Ajces Trust. This donation is earmarked for the Leon & Betty Ajces Memorial Fund and aims to enhance clinical trials and research at the center.

This marks the second time the Betty Ajces Trust has supported the Stony Brook Cancer Center. The fund was initially established in 2023 to aid the center's food pantry and ovarian cancer research. The latest donation will further support efforts in cancer prevention, treatment, or cure through clinical trials and research.

Alan E. Weiner, trustee of the Betty Ajces Trust, expressed his admiration for the work being done at the center, stating, “Our scientific medical officer and I are impressed with all of the research being done at the Cancer Center.” He added that they are pleased to support these efforts.

Yusuf A. Hannun, MD, director of the Stony Brook Cancer Center, acknowledged the impact of this contribution: “We are grateful for the Betty Ajces Trust’s contribution to fuel the momentum of the Cancer Center.” He emphasized that this support would significantly influence cancer medicine studies both locally and globally.

The Cancer Center provides advanced treatment options with innovative therapies and clinical trials for both adults and children. It features a state-of-the-art facility designed to accommodate patients' privacy needs and includes cutting-edge technology alongside specialized care teams.

Peter Igarashi, MD, Knapp Dean of Renaissance School of Medicine, highlighted how this gift would bolster their strengths in cancer medicine research: “By investing in research and clinical trials, we can accelerate the discovery-to-implementation process and improve health outcomes.”
