Eighth-grade students from William Floyd Middle School and William Paca Middle School recently visited the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at William Floyd High School.

These visits, organized by school counselors Allison Ravener and Caroline Reed, allowed students to explore future educational opportunities.

During their visit, students were grouped according to their interests in specific CTE programs and paired with current CTE students who acted as mentors.

This provided them with hands-on experience in various fields offered by the program.

William Floyd Middle School student Alexandria Shea expressed interest in the Medical Assisting program, stating, “I would love to be a part of the Medical Assisting program because there are many benefits for college and my future career goal within the medical field.” She also noted her appreciation for the friendships formed through the CTE program.

Mia Cartelami, another eighth grader from William Floyd Middle School, participated in the Culinary Arts program where she learned to make brownies from scratch.

"This program gave me motivation and purpose to continue to strive toward high grades and obtain important life skills such as cooking," she said.

The CTE program at William Floyd High School offers eight academy-style learning pathways designed to prepare students for careers or college. The pathways include Automotive, Barbering, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Home Design & Carpentry (with electrical and plumbing), Medical Assisting, Marine & Motorsports, and Personal Training & Nutrition.

Additionally, eighth-grade students from William Paca Middle School had the opportunity to visit the Personal Training & Nutrition program during their trip.
