Stan Davis honored on Fine Arts Wall for contributions to music education

April Coppola President | William Floyd School District

Stan Davis, a long-time contributor to the William Floyd School District's music program, has been recognized as a Fine Arts Wall of Distinction Honoree for 2025. His career in the district began in 1966 when he was tasked with starting the band program at William Floyd Elementary School. The existing band program was led by George Lester, Richard Horton, and Ed Pinto.

As the district expanded and restructured its school system around 1970, Davis transitioned to the high school along with the sixth-grade band. When William Paca Middle School opened around 1976, he moved with the sixth-grade band to this new junior high school and remained there until his retirement in 1996 after a 30-year tenure.

Davis is an alumnus of The Manhattan School of Music and Stony Brook University. His involvement extended beyond teaching; he was active as a clinician, performer, and conference organizer. He served as past president of the Long Island Recorder Festival, now known as Suffolk County Music Educators Association’s “Eugene Reichenthal Day of Recorder.” Additionally, he founded Arcadian Press.

Today, Davis continues his musical endeavors with various ensembles and divides his time between Northport and Ulster County in New York.
