The William Floyd School District (WFSD) recently hosted the 2025 FIRST Lego League Qualifier at William Floyd High School. This event brought together seven teams from district elementary and middle schools to compete with other robotics teams from across Long Island. The competition followed the theme "FIRST DIVE," which encouraged participants to explore life beneath the ocean surface and propose innovations for healthier oceans.

Two teams from WFSD received awards during the event. Alisa Plastrik, co-advisor of MorDynamics, was honored with the Coach/Mentor Award for her leadership and guidance. The Tangier Techbots were recognized as first finalists for the Innovation Project Award, praised for their problem-solving skills and effective communication of their findings.

The opening ceremony featured a performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" by four seniors from William Floyd High School. Thomas Betz, Max Heitman, and Michael Pedra provided vocals, while Jariella Mercado Gonzalez performed an American Sign Language interpretation.

Teams representing WFSD included The Floydbots, Tech Titans, New Kids on the Block, MorDynamics, Tangier Techbots, FloydStrongMS, and the Paca Wolves. The William Floyd High School Robotics Team 287 also participated by mentoring younger teams.
