Matt Senk Head baseball coach | Stony Brook University

Stony Brook University's head baseball coach, Matt Senk, has achieved his 950th career win. This milestone was reached when the Seawolves triumphed over Niagara with a score of 15-7 during their home opener on March 7 at Joe Nathan Field.

Coach Senk joins an exclusive group as one of only 11 active college baseball coaches to have secured 950 career victories. During the game, Matthew Jackson significantly contributed to Stony Brook's success by going 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI. George Adams also played a crucial role, securing his second win of the season with 3.2 shutout innings from the bullpen.

Senk is the longest-serving coach in Stony Brook’s history, now in his 35th season leading the Seawolves. He has achieved numerous accolades throughout his tenure, including being named America East Coach of the Year three times and receiving the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Coach of the Year award in 2012 after guiding Stony Brook to an impressive season that included defeating LSU in the Super Regional.

Under Senk’s leadership, Stony Brook has won seven regular-season championships and six conference tournament titles. The team has also participated in six NCAA Tournament appearances. Additionally, Senk holds membership in both the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame and the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame.

Senk’s coaching legacy includes seeing 51 players sign professional baseball contracts, with five reaching Major League Baseball: Joe Nathan, Travis Jankowski, Nick Tropeano, Tom Koehler, and Daniel Zamora. Notably, Patrick Cantwell celebrated a World Series victory in 2023 as part of the Texas Rangers' coaching staff alongside Jankowski.

Following Senk's notable win, Stony Brook's record stands at 8-9 overall as they prepare for upcoming games against Rider on March 19 and a series at Delaware to start their CAA conference schedule. They will return home for matches against Iona on March 25 and Northeastern from March 28-30.
