AI Innovation Institute expands computing power with Nvidia HGX H100

Steven Skiena, interim director of AI | Stony Brook University

The AI Innovation Institute (AI3) recently upgraded its computing capabilities with the Nvidia HGX H100, a high-performance system designed to assist in tackling complex machine learning challenges across various fields, including language, vision, healthcare, education, sustainability, and weather modeling.

The system features eight Nvidia HGX H100 GPUs and 6TB of memory, allowing the machine to process large datasets and perform intricate calculations at unprecedented speeds while maintaining performance efficiency.

Steven Skiena, interim director of AI3, remarked, “This is the most powerful machine in our AI3 computing cluster, and it is being kept quite busy by our students.”

PhD student Panagiotis Kaliosis from the Department of Computer Science commented, “I found the new AI3 Cluster really useful. We are currently working with cutting-edge Large Language Models (LLMs), such as Llama and DeepSeek, which require significant computational resources that are now more easily accessible. We are now on track to submit a new paper that makes a timely contribution in the intersection of Computer Science, Psychology, and Cognitive Science.”
