Earlier this week iconic wrestling coach Joe Condon was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Condon has been the coach of the Shoreham-Wading River wrestling program for the past 18 years and has had unbridled success. Condon is still adding to his impressive resume as he is still the head man in charge of the Wildcats. He has over 300 wins to his credit which also includes three Suffolk titles and three county championships.
The wrestlers who have come from his tutelage have included some of the brightest names on the mat. He’s coached 23 Suffolk champions and six have won state titles. He is currently coaching one of the best wrestlers in the country in Gavin Mangano.
Before coaching Condon had already made a name for himself among wrestling greats, as well as among the best in Wildcat history. He wrestled for the Wildcats and was a 4-year varsity starter and as a natural leader, was named team captain. He was a three-time league finalist, two-time Suffolk County freestyle champion, and finished 2nd in New York State freestyle championships.
Condon was joined in the Hall of Fame this week by Kevin Brodsky, Leo Palacio, Glen Lanham, Rob Shaver and Dave Warren.
