Grammy Award winner Dan Pugach and singer Allison Rumley are set to headline the second concert in The Jazz Loft @ Southampton Concert Series on May 29 at 7 pm. The event will take place at the Avram Theater at Stony Brook Southampton.
The concert, titled “The Art of New,” promises an evening of music celebrating jazz through fresh, original compositions by notable voices in the genre. It will feature selections from drummer and composer Pugach’s album "Bianca Reimagined: Music for Paws and Persistence," which explores themes of freedom and resilience. This album recently won the 2025 Grammy for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album. The performance will include the Dan Pugach Big Band with Rumley on vocals.
Pugach is recognized for his achievements in jazz composition, having received awards such as the ASCAP Foundation Jazz Composer Award and the BMI Charlie Parker Composition Prize. His nonet and big band have performed at venues like Birdland Jazz Club and international festivals.
Rumley, a singer-songwriter with roots in gospel and soul music, released her debut album "First Love" in 2016. She has performed at various venues including Pianos and The Knitting Factory. Rumley co-leads the Big Beat Big Band and received the Mid Atlantic Arts Fellowship award for songwriting in 2023.
The series is curated by Thomas Manuel, founder of Jazz Loft and Stony Brook University Jazz Department Endowed Artist in Residence Fellow. It aims to bring jazz traditions to Southampton while offering both entertainment and education.
Tickets are available individually or as a series pass online, with prices set at $36 per performance for general admission, $33 for seniors, and $18 for Stony Brook students.
