Stony Brook University Hospital earns top 25 ranking for environmental excellence

Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) has been recognized as one of the Top 25 Hospitals in the United States for its efforts in environmental excellence. This recognition is based on a comprehensive scoring system that evaluates success and performance across various sustainability programs, including leadership, waste management, chemical use, operating room practices, food services, sustainable procurement, energy conservation, water usage, climate initiatives, transportation, and green building practices. The award represents Practice Greenhealth’s highest honor for the Partner for Change application and highlights top achievements in healthcare environmental sustainability.

Furthermore, SBUH's multidisciplinary approach to reducing its environmental impact has earned it Circles of Excellence Awards in Chemicals, Sustainable Procurement, Energy, and Green Building categories. These awards are given to the ten highest-performing hospitals in each area of sustainability impact.
