Third-grade penpals meet face-to-face after months of correspondence

Lorraine Mentz Trustee | William Floyd School District

For the second time in the school year, students from Mrs. Dobbeck's third-grade class at Moriches Elementary School met with their penpals from Mrs. McNamara's third-grade class at John S. Hobart Elementary School. Throughout the year, these young students have been corresponding via letters and video meetings on Google Meets.

In November, Mrs. McNamara's class visited Moriches Elementary School. In May, it was Mrs. Dobbeck's class that traveled to Hobart for a reciprocal visit. During this meeting, the children engaged in collaborative activities using pool noodles to build structures, which helped strengthen their friendships.

The students are eager to continue writing letters and hope to reconnect when they enter high school.
