WFHS senior receives DAR excellence award for American history

William Floyd High School senior Drew Wiegand has been honored with the Daughters of the American Revolution "Excellence in American History" award. This recognition is given to students who excel in their American history classes, and Drew was chosen by members of the Patchogue-based Col. Josiah Smith Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She received a special certificate and pin for her achievements.

At her school, Drew is actively involved in various extracurricular activities such as the National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, Science Honor Society (where she holds the position of vice president), and Tri-M Music Honor Society. In addition to academics, she has excelled in sports, being a three-year varsity tennis player with All-County honors and participating in lacrosse, track programs, Unified bowling, and Unified basketball. Her involvement extends to student government and class council while also singing with the Acabellas for three years. Moreover, Drew dedicated six years volunteering with the Moriches Bay Project to help maintain local waterways.

Drew's academic accolades include receiving the Principal’s Award (Top 10 in her class), President’s Award for Educational Excellence, New York State Comptroller Award, High Achievement Award, and Honored Academic Achiever Award. She is recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction and has earned the Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish.

Looking ahead, Drew plans to attend Endicott College where she will major in interior architecture with a minor in construction management.
