Stony Brook Southampton's Avram Theater is set to honor the legacy of jazz musicians from Long Island's East End on Juneteenth, Thursday, June 16. This event is part of The Jazz Loft @ Southampton Concert Series.
The performance will begin at 7 pm and will feature renowned jazz artists such as Teddy Charles, Teo Macero, Hall McKusick, and the Heath Brothers. The ensemble Project 464, whose members' combined ages total 464 years, will perform during the event.
During the concert, an individual will be recognized with a "Lifetime Achievement Award from The Jazz Loft" and receive special recognition from the NAACP of Eastern Long Island for their contributions to music and culture. Additionally, a multi-generational dinner with musicians and students is planned as part of the celebration.
Manuel, founder of The Jazz Loft and Stony Brook University Jazz Department Endowed Artist in Residence Fellow, curated this series to bring jazz traditions and innovation to the Southampton community. Each performance explores jazz both historically and contemporarily while providing entertainment and education.
The partnership between The Jazz Loft and Stony Brook Southampton aims to preserve jazz through education and performance. This collaboration offers East End residents an opportunity to experience jazz firsthand.
Tickets are priced at $36 for general admission, $33 for seniors, and $18 for SBU students. Passes for the final three concerts in the series are available for $80. Tickets can be purchased online.
