Stony Brook Children's hosts annual health expo at Long Island Ducks Ballpark

Richard L. McCormick Interim President | Stony Brook University

Stony Brook Children's Hospital recently organized its Annual Kids Health and Safety Expo at the Long Island Ducks Ballpark. The event took place on June 18 and featured a variety of interactive exhibits and activities designed to promote health and safety among children.

The expo included ten staffed tables, offering hands-on experiences such as finger casting by Child Life, tick information from Infectious Diseases, and oral health education from Dentistry. Injury prevention experts provided valuable water safety tips, while the nursing team educated attendees on sun safety.

A highlight of the evening was the distribution of collectible lunch boxes branded with Ducks and Stony Brook Children’s logos to the first 1,000 kids in attendance. The giveaway proved popular among participants.

In collaboration with Island Harvest Food Bank, attendees contributed to hunger relief efforts by donating non-perishable items to 'Stuff a Seawolf Bus' parked on-site. Contributors had a chance to win Stony Brook merchandise as part of this initiative.

Over 500 tickets were distributed by Stony Brook Children’s for the event, allowing many families to enjoy an evening together. Dr. James Barsi from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery had the honor of throwing the ceremonial first pitch before the game commenced. The night concluded with a victory for the home team, L.I. Ducks.
