Kristan Probeck, a member of Stony Brook Surgery's Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, has been recognized as the Nurse Practitioner (NP) of the Year by the Nurse Practitioner Association of Long Island (NPALI). This award is specific to Region 7, which covers Long Island and includes approximately 800 members.

Probeck expressed her gratitude for the recognition: "I am deeply honored to receive this award and grateful to the committee and the NPALI. This award inspires me to continue striving for excellence and making a positive impact in the nurse practitioner field. I share this honor with my colleagues, mentors, and patients who inspire me every day. I am motivated by this award to continue advocating for Nurse Practitioners and patients and continuing to improve healthcare outcomes."

Her career in healthcare began as a certified nursing assistant before advancing through various certifications. She became a registered nurse in 2003, earned her adult nurse practitioner degree in 2010, and joined Stony Brook Surgery's vascular division in 2013 as a venous thromboembolism (VTE) nurse practitioner.

In her current role, Probeck focuses on preventive care, patient-focused research for safety and quality improvement, and has contributed to developing the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team at Stony Brook. She is recognized nationally for her expertise in VTE standards and research, having spoken at conferences, authored journal articles, and presented posters at vascular conferences.

Probeck will be formally awarded during a celebratory dinner scheduled for September.
