Stony Brook University announces finalists for third annual Stony Awards

Stony Brook University has announced the finalists for its third annual Stony Awards, set to take place in December. The awards are intended to recognize employees who have shown outstanding commitment to the university’s mission and values. Finalists were selected through a nomination process involving peer recommendations and leadership review.

President Andrea Goldsmith shared the news with the university community on September 9. “Today it is my honor to announce the finalists for the 2025 Stony Awards in celebration of exemplary achievements across our community,” Goldsmith said. “Our selection committee reviewed hundreds of nominations, each a testament to your talent and dedication.”

The awards feature five categories:

- President’s Award for Nurturing a Welcoming, Inclusive Campus Culture: Diana Champney, Ellen Cooke, Giselle Gerardi, Ric McClendon

- President’s Award for Excellence in Patient Service: Amruta Desai, Georgios Georgakis, Stephanie Parra, Lisa A. Romard

- Excellence in Leadership Award: Dana Jecewiz, Susan McCarthy, Diane Perillo, Karian Wright

- Community Award: M. Ete Chan-Lo, Kirshani Gunaratnam, Christine Marsh, Rhona Sherwin

- SB YOU Award: M. Ete Chan-Lo, Sean Getty, Jeannie Guglielmo, Lori Lyons

One recipient from these groups will also receive the President’s Stony Brook Champion Award.

The ceremony is scheduled for Monday, December 8 at Flowerfield in St. James at 6 pm.

“We look forward to celebrating all of you at the Third Annual Stony Awards in recognition of how you work with purpose and elevate our shared vision every day,” Goldmith said. “The contributions you make to Stony Brook and to our community have tremendous positive impact for which we are deeply grateful.”
