Stony Brook University prepares for annual CommUniversity Day celebration

Andrea Goldsmith President at Stony Brook University | Stony Brook University

Stony Brook University will host its annual CommUniversity Day on Saturday, September 27. The event is set to take place on the Academic Mall from noon to 4 pm, with an indoor rain plan scheduled for the same day at Stony Brook Arena.

This year’s program includes the second annual LEGO competition, where participants will create builds that reflect their vision of community. The event will end with the Duck Race at 3:30 pm.

Attendees can participate in activities such as Appliance Autopsy, an ice cream social, line dancing, chair yoga, a tree tour, and musical performances by Music and Medicine and The Stony Brook High C’s. President Andrea Goldsmith is scheduled to address attendees from the main stage.

CommUniversity Day organizes activities into themed “neighborhoods,” including Arts, Community, Find Out in 15, Food, Health, Safety, Tech and Discovery, and Traditions. Health and wellness offerings include information booths and screenings. Activities like the Teddy Bear Clinic and Story Time with the Tooth Fairy are also planned in this area.

Food options will be available from several food trucks and vendors associated with Stony Brook’s Food Business Incubator at Calverton. Campus dining locations will remain open during the event.

Last year’s CommUniversity Day drew about 2,000 attendees from both within and outside the university community. More than 100 individuals, clubs, departments from Stony Brook University and Medicine, as well as nonprofit partners participated.

"President Andrea Goldsmith will address the attendees from the main stage."
