The William Floyd girls’ varsity tennis team is preparing for the 2025 fall season under the leadership of head coach Dave Pia. Pia, who has twice been named United States Tennis Association Coach of the Year and is a member of the William Floyd High School Athletic Hall of Fame, outlined his main objectives for the team.

“The team prepares for the postseason starting in the winter with indoor play and moves outside in the spring for continued postseason play,” said Coach Pia. “The team prepares for the preseason starting in the summer with our tennis camp that goes for eight weeks and takes us up to the start of the season.”

The Colonials have made playoff appearances each year for more than two decades. In 2024, they finished as one of Section XI’s top four seeds with a 15-3 record and reached the semifinals in postseason competition.

This year, five senior players from last season are no longer on the roster, but several experienced athletes return. Key returning players include juniors Anabel Van Cott and Lydia Van Cott (2024 All-County), senior Khloe DiMaio, junior Gianna Martin (2024 All-County), senior captain Corinne Neidig (2024 All-League), junior Tatiana Sanchez (2024 All-Division), and junior Rylie Wiegand (2024 All-League). The rest of this year’s roster features new players: freshman Ava Asendorf, junior Genesis Canas, junior Katelynn DeLuca, junior Alexandria Dorost, sophomores Emma Drees and Emma Hodgson, freshman Gabriella Montalbano, and junior Karin Da Gama Paes.

The Colonials started their current campaign on September 2 with an away win against Southold/Greenport. They followed this with a home victory over Southampton on September 4. As of now, their record stands at 5-1.

Coach Pia continues to focus on developing both mental and physical skills among his athletes while aiming for steady improvement through each season.
