William Floyd High School senior Claira Parente has been named one of the top 100 varsity girls’ volleyball players on Long Island by Newsday. The recognition comes after her strong performance during the 2024 season, where she recorded 268 digs, 62 assists, and 51 aces. These achievements led to her receiving All-Classification honors for the first time in her career. She had previously earned All-League honors.

For the current season, Parente is expected to play a key role as the Colonials aim for a return to postseason competition. In the first seven games of 2025, she has already made an impact with 120 digs—ranking fourth on Long Island—and 21 aces, which ties her for eleventh place in Suffolk County.

Varsity volleyball coach Matthew Van Horne described Parente as “a cornerstone of the William Floyd volleyball program, serving as the varsity libero for all four years of her high school career.” He added: “Her consistency, leadership, and relentless defensive play set the standard for the team from the moment she stepped on the court as a freshman.”

Coach Van Horne also highlighted Parente’s quick reflexes and court awareness, noting her ability to keep rallies alive and contribute defensively.

Parente has attended William Floyd schools throughout her education, including William Floyd Elementary School and William Floyd Middle School.

The Colonials are scheduled to play their next home game against Sachem North on Friday, September 26 at 4 pm.
