William Floyd High School freshmen Audriana Smith and Welman Gomez Zelaya have been named winners of a logo design contest for the school’s theater program. Their artwork will be featured on promotional materials for the upcoming fall production of "Puffs," which is scheduled for November 7 and 8 at 6:30 pm.

Students in art teacher Tori Golino’s classes participated in the competition, with the winning designs selected to appear on posters and playbills for the event. According to Theresa Bianco, Fine Arts chairperson at William Floyd School District, “The Puffs project started with a lesson on logos and how they are intended to accurately represent a brand or company. After discussing the imagery and themes of Puffs, students were tasked with creating a logo-style design to represent the Puffs play.” She added that this activity also introduced students to various shading techniques that will be used in future projects.

Audriana Smith’s design features a wizard’s hat with the play’s title above it and will be displayed on the playbill cover. Welman Gomez Zelaya’s artwork, showing a badger wearing a wizard’s hat with the title underneath, is being used for posters promoting the production.

Both students received certificates from Mrs. Bianco recognizing their achievements. This assignment was their first classroom project of the year, making their selection particularly meaningful.

Audriana has attended William Floyd schools since kindergarten at Tangier Smith Elementary School and continued through William Paca Middle School. Welman began attending William Floyd schools in fifth grade at John S. Hobart Elementary School before also moving on to William Paca Middle School.

Theresa Bianco noted that both students were excited about having their designs chosen for this special opportunity.
