Moriches Elementary holds annual pumpkin carving contest

Kevin Coster, Superintendent | William Floyd School District

Moriches Elementary School recently held its 46th annual “Great Pumpkin” contest, inviting students and their families to carve pumpkins into creative designs. The event is a longstanding tradition at the school, with faculty and staff judging entries based on creativity, originality, and craftsmanship.

This year, over 70 students participated in the contest. Art teacher and contest coordinator Amanda Maertz announced the winners on Halloween. Students whose pumpkins were selected as winners or honorable mentions received certificates, pins, and goody bags.

The first place winner was Iker Cedeno Garcia for “Alien Abduction.” Cameron Pistolese took second place with “Stay Puft Man,” while Rocco Ingarra earned third place for “Beach.” Honorable mentions went to Jason Morales Zavala for “Spooky Merry Go Round,” Iara Molina for “Cookie Monster,” and Alyson Martinez for “Plankton and the Secret Formula.”

Maertz congratulated all participants: "Congratulations to all of the students who had their pumpkins chosen as winners and to all of the students who participated in the contest!"
