Online registration for returning students in the Brookhaven School District will begin on Monday, June 9. Parents are required to log into their Active Parent account to verify student information and upload proof of residency documentation through the Residency Proof Documents tab. A valid Mississippi driver’s license or ID must also be uploaded using the Miscellaneous Documents tab. Schools will review each application and verify addresses and residency. Parents will be contacted if additional information is needed and will receive an email confirmation once registration is complete.
For new students, parents can call the school starting June 9 to schedule an appointment with a counselor for enrollment. All necessary documents must be brought to this appointment.
A One-Stop-Shop event is scheduled for those who need assistance with online registration or have not completed it. This event will take place at Lipsey Middle School for grades K-8 and Brookhaven High School for grades 9-12 on Wednesday, July 9, and Thursday, July 10, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Registration will continue online and at each school until 8:00 am on Wednesday, July 30. Students must be registered by this deadline to attend the first day of school on Friday, August 1. Registration will resume on Monday, August 4.
Residency verification requires two current proofs of residency per student for the upcoming school year. Acceptable documents include utility bills dated within the last 45 days showing service location, tax records verified online, property deeds or lease agreements (notarized if unofficial), cable or internet bills, mortgage documents, among others. The use of false information or someone else’s address without actually residing there may result in revocation of enrollment or other legal consequences as outlined in School Board Policy JBC.
Parents of incoming seventh graders should note that all seventh grade students are required by the Mississippi Department of Health to receive a Tdap vaccination before completing registration and attending classes. More information is available on the MSDH website or by calling 1-866-HLTHY4U (1-866-459-4948).
New student registration requires a certified birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization records (Mississippi Immunization Form 121), withdrawal report from previous school (if applicable), transcript for high school students, Medicaid number (if applicable), notice of special needs (if applicable), valid Mississippi driver’s license or ID for parent/guardian, and two proofs of residency with matching addresses.
An affidavit of residency is needed if a student lives full-time with a parent in a residence not owned or leased by that parent or with another adult due to extreme circumstances. Legal guardianship formed solely for establishing district attendance purposes is not recognized by Brookhaven School District according to MS Code §37-15-31. All affidavits must be approved by district administration prior to registration; forms can be picked up at Central Office or during One-Stop-Shop events.
For questions regarding affidavits or further details about required documentation and processes related to student enrollment in Brookhaven School District schools this fall semester, parents may contact district administration at (601) 833-6661.
