First responders are regularly exposed to dangerous and traumatic events, which can impact their mental health both in the short and long term. In response to these challenges, Stony Brook Medicine is launching a new resiliency training program aimed at preventing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among first responders.
The initiative will begin in 2026 and will be implemented through fire stations and emergency medical services organizations in New York and Texas. The goal of the program is to provide first responders with tools and strategies to help them cope with the psychological effects of their work.
More details about the program are available on the Stony Brook Medicine website.
