SWR Wins the White Plains Tiger Invitational

The Shoreham-Wading River varsity wrestling team captured the team championship at the White Plains Tiger Invitational this week, delivering a dominant performance against strong competition. The Wildcats defeated 11 other teams representing Section I, Section IX, and the Catholic High School Athletic Association, showcasing their depth, toughness, and consistency throughout the tournament.

Shoreham-Wading River displayed an aggressive and highly competitive style, scoring points from all positions and controlling matches across multiple weight classes. The Wildcats finished with 296 total points, winning the event by a commanding 97-point margin over second-place Pleasantville, which totaled 199 points. All 14 Shoreham-Wading River wrestlers entered in the tournament placed inside the top eight, an impressive accomplishment that highlighted the team’s balance and preparation.

Several Wildcats turned in standout individual performances. Andrew Dolson, Thomas Matias, Shane Cowan, Shane Hall, Brady Kitchen, and Jacob Conti all earned first-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Cowan’s performance was particularly noteworthy, as he was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler. Jer’Shawn Coffey added a strong second-place finish, while John O’Neill placed third. Jake Davis finished fourth, Gio Aliotta placed fifth, and James Como also earned a fifth-place result. Nathan Jordan finished sixth, while Bradley Brandt and Leo Marcario each placed seventh.

The team’s success at the invitational reflects the Wildcats’ depth, work ethic, and ability to compete at a high level against elite programs. Every wrestler contributed valuable points, reinforcing Shoreham-Wading River’s reputation as one of the top wrestling teams in the state.

Following the victory, the Wildcats are now ranked No. 7 in New York State. They will host No. 2-ranked John Glenn this week in what promises to be a highly anticipated matchup between two Long Island wrestling powerhouses.
