The Seawolves picked up victories over Columbia and Central Michigan, continuing their strong start to the season. With the two wins, Stony Brook improved to 8-3 overall, already matching its total win output from last season with plenty of basketball still to be played.
The highlight of the week came in a thrilling overtime victory against Columbia. The Lions entered the matchup with just one loss on the year, but Stony Brook’s defense proved to be the difference. The Seawolves held Columbia to only 17 points in the first half, setting the tone early. Defense remained the calling card throughout the contest, as Stony Brook clamped down again in the overtime period to secure the win.
Senior guard Erik Pratt played a pivotal role in the overtime victory and was rewarded by being named Co-CAA Player of the Week. Pratt elevated his game when it mattered most, scoring eight of Stony Brook’s 12 overtime points. He also set a career high at the free-throw line, delivering in crucial moments and helping close out the hard-fought win.
In the following matchup against Central Michigan, the Seawolves showcased their offensive firepower. Stony Brook shot an impressive 59 percent from the field in the first half and connected on 11 of 17 attempts from three-point range. The balanced scoring and efficient shooting overwhelmed Central Michigan and allowed the Seawolves to control the game from start to finish.
The wins further solidified Stony Brook’s dominance at home, where the Seawolves remain a perfect 6-0 this season. With momentum building and confidence growing, Stony Brook continues to establish itself as a strong contender early in the year.
