Kamala Speaks ... And Loses Steam
Kamala Harris sat down with a very favorable CNN and host Dana Bash for her first speaking appearance and it went as poorly as anyone could have imagined. Reports came out that CNN had to cut the interview short for fear of how poorly received the Vice President would come off and even with all that editing she still sunk herself lower in the odds.
Stony Brook Turning Heads Early
According to the first poll of the season by the United Soccer Coaches East Region the Seawolves are at #9 in. Stony Brook is the CAA's lone representative in the East Region poll after opening the season with a win. The Seawolves began the season with a 2-1 victory over Colgate at home, and followed that with a 2-2 draw on the road against the Big Ten's Maryland. They then earned their second win of the year with a 3-2 win over FDU at LaValle Stadium.
Do The Jets Look Super in 2024?
New York might have as much talent as any team in the league. Breece Hall was slow to come back from an injury but once he did he was a force. Hall missed time and was brought back slowly and still registered 223 carries for 994 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 76 passes for 591 yards and four touchdowns. Hall could be the best back in the league as soon as this season. Garrett Wilson also has a path to becoming the best at his position. Wilson was constantly double teamed and being shaded on by safeties. He caught passes from QB's who simply shouldn't be starting for an NFL team, maybe not even be on a roster, yet he still managed to catch 95 passes for 1,042 yards and three scores.
Another Duck To The Show
The Long Island Ducks are sending another player to the big leagues. This weekend catcher Chance Sisco's contract was purchased by the St. Louis Cardinals organization.
The Giants have an Uphill Climb this Season
There were a lot of issues with the Giants last season but none were bigger than the offensive line. The o-line wasn't just bad last season, they were historically bad. The Giants allowed 85 sacks last year, of course they led the league, but that finished 2nd most all time in the history of the league. The line was the #1 concern this offseason and while losing Barkey stung, getting the front of offense fixed had to be the priority. The Giants added Jon Runyan Jr., Jermaine Eluemunor, Aaron Stinnie, Austin Schlottman, and Matt Nelson. That all can help health also comes into play. Thomas and Neal's health concerns are an enormous factor.
The Ducks MVP Is In Your Hands
The Ducks and Delmonte-Smelson Jewelers have teamed up to present the 2024 Long Island Ducks MVP Award. The Ducks are asking fans to vote once per day from now through Saturday, September 14, for the Ducks player they believe should be this year's Most Valuable Player. Fans can easily go vote at LIDucks.com/mvpvoting and select the player they think should take home the prestigious award. The player with the most fan votes will be announced on September 15th and receive a commemorative gift from Delmonte-Smelson Jewelers.
Gearing Up For The Gridiron
Each team selected a handful of players to come up and stand besides their coach for pictures, while each coach discussed the players accomplishments and what they meant to the team and school on and off the field.
Babe Ruth Is Still Setting Records
The great Bambino might have retired almost 90 years ago, but he is still setting records. Babe Ruth's game-worn jersey from the 1932 World Series against the Cubs sold this week for more than $24 million dollars. Ruth famously pointed into the stands and hit a home run where observers said he predicted.
NFL Future Plays - Don't Go For The Big Cashout
As with College Football, most of the public bet on things like MVP and Super Bowl winners. While they are 'fun' bets, they also come with some pretty weak values. The MVP award has been awarded to a QB in 11 straight years and 16 of the past 17 seasons, while the Super Bowl has been won by a top 4 favorite in 5 of the last 7 years. That means there is only small value on these long term futures.
A Nightmare Week For Harris
What was said at the Democratic National Convention might not have hurt Harris as much as what was not said, and according to many that was very little by Harris and her policy. For Democrats the DNC was a party of their ideology that was on full display from a Planned Parenthood truck outside to promises of a surprise guest who never showed up. The week's events hurt the Harris/Walz ticket as much as we have watched in a while.
Rookie Of The Year?
Austin Wells came into the season best known to many Bombers fans as the man who ate chicken parmigiana with Anthony Volpe, but those who followed the minor leagues closely knew that Wells was a perfect fit for New York. Austin Wells' signature lefty swing was tailor made for Yankee Stadium, and his leadership and defense behind the plate were welcome additions to a team that was lacking in both.
Does The Preseason Matter?
The New York teams battled each other this weekend and for one team they had better hope that the preseason means nothing, while the other certainly will preach that this is just a precursor to the type of good season that lies ahead.
Big Play Lapp Turns Heads
Lapp caught a deep 47-yard pass from backup QB Stetson Bennett. He finished the game with two catches for 50 yards and that long, highlight reel touchdown.
The Ducks Keep the Belt Home
The Ducks won 6-2 to take two of the three games in the series. They were led by a home run by Aaron Antonini, a dominant pitching performance by Ellis, who notched his first Ducks win, and the bullpen trio of Peyton Williams, Jake Fishman and David Griffin closed it out.
Add Another Hall of Fame For Rotanz
Rotanz won the Long Island Coach of the Year award three times over his career (2001, 2003, 2007). He has 256 career wins in his 18 seasons at Shoreham-Wading River, to just 99 losses, and led the Wildcats to state championships in 2001, 2007 and 2012. Rotanz said "I brought a lot of playing experience with me to Shoreham-Wading River, a new program, in 1995, and within 7 years we went from a scrappy upstart to New York State champions with a top-10 national ranking."
Saving Lives For Team USA
While the Olympics in Paris might be over that doesn't end the proud Suffolk county athletes representing the United States all over the world. This past week Colin Veit of Port Jefferson represented team USA in Australia at the Lifesaving World Championships.
College Football Future Plays
The NCAA will now move to a 12 team playoff and that causes a disruption in the betting strategy. More variables and more unknowns are bad for bettors, especially when it's a vote that will determine not only who gets in, but also seeding. The same can be said for the Heisman trophy and it's voting. With that said it's safer to stick with known commodities. Things like what team will make the playoffs are tempting, but team total wins are always a safer bet, but a lesser payout. Here are the top future plays for this season:
The Seawolves Men's and Women's Teams Get Preseason Nods
Men's forward Jonas Bickusd was named to the Preseason All-CAA team, while defender Bas Beckhoven was recognized as an Honorable Mention. Beckhoven led the team to a third place finish last season.

When we begin to talk about greatness the discussion veers into a different category for the greats of the greats. With Aaron Judge he has cemented himself into that sort of conversation. When baseball historians begin questioning a man's Hall of Fame resume while he is still playing and just 32 years old, we are now in the territory of the greats of the game. But, how great is Judge, and more so how will he be perceived.
