Nassau police deem nationwide school threat non-credible
The Nassau County Police Department has issued an alert regarding a nationwide school threat circulating on social media, which they have determined to be non-credible.
Floyd Academy Principal John DeBenedetto receives Long Island School Hero Award
John DeBenedetto, principal of Floyd Academy, has been selected to receive a Long Island School Hero Award presented by the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying. This award highlights Long Island educators K-12 and beyond who have been inspirational in their roles and continue to go above and beyond by modeling qualities such as empathy, patience, creativity, dedication, leadership, compassion, inclusivity, and respectfulness. Mr. DeBenedetto is one of just 22 educators being honored this year.
William Floyd hosts Longwood for Parkway Power Bowl XIII
On Saturday, September 14 at 1 pm, the William Floyd varsity Colonials will face the Longwood Lions in the annual Parkway Power Bowl. This marks the 13th Power Bowl matchup between these two rivals as they compete for bragging rights during the opening game of the fall 2024 season. The Colonials currently lead the Parkway Power Bowl series with a record of 10-2, including a 21-0 victory last year.

William Floyd High School senior Scott Eriksen, a forward on the boys’ varsity soccer team, has been named among the Top 100 boys’ varsity soccer players for the fall 2024 season by Newsday.

Last call for Class of 2025 senior portraits scheduled for October
The last call for Senior Portraits to be booked at the high school is scheduled for October 22, 23, and 24. The sessions will take place in the west gym. Any sessions after these dates must be booked directly at the studio in Farmingdale. Students are encouraged to visit schedule.prestigeportraits.com to book their appointments.

Adaptive tricycles enhance mobility options in William Floyd School District
On September 3, 2024, John S. Hobart Elementary School featured an event showcasing AmTrykes adaptive tricycles. Attendees included Ravi Seeram, assistant director of special education at William Floyd School District; Dr. Stacey Scalise, assistant superintendent for elementary instruction; Debbie Metz, president of AMBUCS LI and the Kyle Sports for Special Needs inclusion program; Kyle Meier, vice president of Kyle Sports for Special Needs; and James Westcott, principal of John S. William Floyd High School resumes classes after addressing gas leak
