William Floyd United Teachers donate books to kindergartners

Jennifer Heitman Board Member | William Floyd School District

The William Floyd United Teachers (WFUT), supported by a "Reading Opens the World" grant from the American Federation of Teachers, recently donated copies of Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat to every kindergarten student in the William Floyd School District.

“WFUT believes that early literacy lays the foundation for future academic success, and The Cat in the Hat, with its whimsical rhymes and engaging illustrations, provides the perfect starting point,” said Michael Devenney, William Floyd High School English teacher and president of WFUT. “We are thrilled to bring this initiative to life and look forward to seeing the joy it brings to students and families across the district.”

Last week, William Floyd teachers gathered to sort books and prepare them for distribution at Meet-the-Teacher Night. Any extra books will be donated to classrooms in the district, school libraries, or one of their local action committee’s sharing tables this fall.
