Stony Brook University to host annual CommUniversity Day on September 28

Usama M. Shaikh Assistant Chief Diversity Officer | Stony Brook University

Stony Brook University will host its annual CommUniversity Day on Saturday, September 28, from noon to 4 pm. The event, held on the university’s Academic Mall, is free and family-friendly. It aims to connect the university, Stony Brook Medicine, and the surrounding community through various activities.

CommUniversity Day was introduced in 2017 and has since become a significant event celebrating the university's relationships with community partners. This year features new highlights such as an inaugural LEGO® competition where participants can build creations that reflect their vision of community. The competition will end with an Ice Cream Social and Rubber Duck Race. Registration for the LEGO® competition is available online.

Children can enjoy events like The Teddy Bear Clinic and Storytime with the Tooth Fairy, both requiring online registration.

The event will also host a food drive benefiting Island Harvest, Long Island’s leading hunger-relief organization. Attendees are encouraged to bring two non-perishable food items in exchange for a free cooler bag while supplies last.

CommUniversity Day will feature themed “neighborhoods” offering hands-on activities, exhibits, and demonstrations across various disciplines.

At 3:30 pm, visitors can head to LaValle Stadium to watch the Stony Brook Seawolves compete against the Morgan State Bears in a CAA football game.

More information about CommUniversity Day can be found at stonybrook.edu/communiversity.
