For bravely and heroically saving the life of an elderly man who was in distress over the summer, the Town of Babylon honored North Babylon High School junior Ryan Ticas with their “Heroism Award.”

This is the town’s highest honor, and Ryan received the award for his quick-thinking actions at a local beach.

Supervisor Rich Schaffer and the town board presented the award to Mr. Ticas.

In mid-July, Ryan was at Cedar Beach with his father when he noticed an elderly man in distress in the water. Ryan saw the man was bleeding and rushed to help him. He brought him to shore and alerted lifeguards.

Shortly after, the gravely hurt man was airlifted by helicopter to a trauma center.

Ryan is a varsity football player and member of the National Honor Society at North Babylon High School.
