Lorraine Mentz Trustee | William Floyd School District

William Floyd High School recently held its first on-site admissions event of the academic year, allowing students to engage directly with college admissions counselors. This initiative is designed to help students explore their future educational paths by providing them access to representatives from various institutions.

During the event, 191 students interacted with representatives from 12 colleges and universities. The participating institutions included St. Joseph’s University, Hunter Business School, Pace University, Long Island University, Iona University, Molloy University, SUNY Old Westbury, SUNY Farmingdale, SUNY Delhi, Mount Saint Mary College, Suffolk County Community College, and Eastern Suffolk BOCES.

The interactions resulted in $620,000 worth of scholarships being offered to students during this session. Specific scholarship offers included $291,000 for 14 students at Long Island University and $222,000 for 13 students at Molloy University. Additionally, three students received $75,000 in scholarships from Iona University and one student was awarded $32,000 from Mount Saint Mary College.

The school has planned three more on-site admissions events throughout the year. The next session is scheduled for December 12th and will focus solely on Suffolk Community College. A larger event featuring regional colleges and trade schools is set for February 6th. The final event will take place on April 24th with a return visit from Suffolk County Community College.

The William Floyd High School Counseling Center organized the event as part of its ongoing efforts to support student success in higher education pathways.
