WUSB-FM seeks support during annual Radiothon amid budget challenges

Usama M. Shaikh Assistant Chief Diversity Officer | Stony Brook University

Stony Brook University's WUSB-FM is concluding its annual Radiothon on Giving Tuesday, December 3. The university community is invited to support the radio station during this event.

WUSB-FM, which has been operating for 47 years, broadcasts on 90.1 FM and 107.3 FM. Facing a budget shortfall, the station seeks financial assistance to continue operations. Donations made at the end of the year are tax-exempt and cover operational costs without funding salaries.

Contributions can be pledged online or by calling (631) 632-6828 or (631) 632-6901. The station accepts credit card donations and can issue invoices. Donors contributing $75 or more will receive hoodies, while those giving $50 will receive T-shirts.

Listeners tuning into WUSB can enjoy a variety of content including interviews, news, commentary, jazz, pop, punk, metal, electronic music, noise, funk, folk music, blues, reggae, polka, world music as well as live performances and unique mixes.

The station also broadcasts thousands of public service announcements annually. These inform listeners about local resources such as events, weather emergencies, health information, food pantry locations, art receptions, school closings and charitable activities. Funding comes from listener donations in addition to support from Stony Brook University’s Undergraduate Student Government and Graduate Student Organization as well as local business underwriting and grants.
