Elementary school holds second 'Woodhullgiving' celebration

Kevin Meyer Board Member | William Floyd School District

Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School recently held its second annual "Woodhullgiving" celebration, aimed at fostering community spirit and providing meals for those in need before Thanksgiving. The event featured shared tables of canned and boxed food items donated by the school community. Additionally, the Suffolk County Police Department contributed 30 full Thanksgiving meals to Woodhull families, continuing their support from the previous year.

Attendees participated in various outdoor activities such as dancing, arts and crafts, cornhole, photobooth sessions, playground fun, bounce house enjoyment, and a scavenger hunt. Dr. Murillo expressed gratitude for the school community's collective spirit: “I am deeply grateful for the collective spirit of our school community – students, teachers, staff, families and members of the larger community,” said Dr. Murillo. “Nathaniel Woodhull is an amazing place where everyone consistently comes together for others and celebrates a sense of togetherness. Everyone who participated was truly able to embody the essence of gratitude!”

The event was organized by the Woodhull Student Council led by Diane Catania with Kaitlin O’Keife and Jacquelynn Ciolino, Dr. Murillo, Assistant Principal Erica Peralta, among others. Special thanks were extended to Bounce ‘N’ Fun Party Rentals for providing the photobooth and Awesome Bouncers & Party Rentals LLC for supplying the bounce house.
