William Floyd High School partners with Carpentry Academy for student collaboration

The William Floyd High School "School to Work" class, led by Carmella Currao, recently joined forces with the Home Design & Carpentry Academy for a collaborative project. Students from both programs worked together to construct a blooming picture frame.

"It was an incredible experience watching carpentry students collaborate with and teach my students, building something from scratch," said Mrs. Currao. "The experience was truly amazing for everyone involved."

The project received support from the Home Design & Carpentry Academy instructors Matthew Van Horne and Steven Rendino, as well as a donation of materials from Home Depot.

The William Floyd Home Design & Carpentry Academy offers a two-year program focused on skill development and technical training in carpentry. The program prepares students for entry-level positions in carpentry-related fields. In the first year, students learn construction fundamentals, while the second year covers building construction occupations along with basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC skills. Successful completion of an industry assessment is required for endorsement on their diploma.
