Stony Brook University prepares for its seventh annual Giving Day on March 26

Scott Barrett Interim Vice President for Advancement | Stony Brook University

Stony Brook University is set to hold its seventh annual Giving Day on March 26. This event offers a 24-hour window for supporters to contribute, aiding in the transformation of students into leaders and advancing impactful solutions across various fields.

Scott Barrett, interim vice president for advancement, expressed enthusiasm about the event: “Giving Day is an exciting opportunity for the Stony Brook community to step forward and support the university in a big way. Every year, I am inspired by our community’s engagement, not just by their generous philanthropic contributions but also by the motivation behind their philanthropy.” He added that it is remarkable to see how many people are motivated by the positive impact they can make for current and future generations.

In the previous year, more than $1 million was raised through over 3,800 gifts from supporters. These contributions impacted 105 areas within the campus, benefiting arts, athletics, medicine, research, and more. The funds helped open doors for future leaders and innovators.

This year's Giving Day aims to provide essential resources that will unlock opportunities for student experiences and research with real-world applications. It also seeks to promote healthier communities and progress in arts and culture as well as climate initiatives.

Donors can track their contributions in real-time on Stony Brook's Giving Day website. Special challenges are available that allow certain donations to have an amplified effect.
