In addition to these breakout sessions, students enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of Citi Field. This included visiting the media area, getting to watch batting practice up close and learning the history of both the stadium and the New York Mets. Later on, students participated in an "In Game Sports Power Clean Energy Photo Scavenger Hunt" for their final activity.

Port Jefferson couple sentenced for fatal stabbing at local greenway trail

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the sentencing of Jose Martinez-Vazquez and Tiffany Diaz-Cabrera, both from Port Jefferson Station, for their roles in the fatal stabbing of Benjamin Flores-Mendez. Martinez-Vazquez, 25, pleaded guilty to Murder in the Second Degree for fatally stabbing Flores-Mendez. Diaz-Cabrera, 21, pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree for acting as a lookout during the incident.

Deer Park man indicted for impersonating official and abusing disabled shelter resident

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney has announced the indictment of Alfred Balcerak III, a 65-year-old resident of Deer Park. Balcerak faces charges including Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person in the First Degree and Forcible Touching. The charges stem from allegations that he impersonated a housing specialist from the Department of Social Services and sexually abused a resident at a homeless shelter.

Bronx man sentenced to 18 years for shooting two men

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the sentencing of Alexander Castillo, a 27-year-old Bronx resident, to 18 years in prison. Castillo was convicted of assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and other charges following an incident at a Port Jefferson pool hall in December 2022.

Suffolk County DA announces indictments after seizing dangerous opioid carfentanil

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney has announced the indictment of four individuals in connection with a narcotics distribution network involving carfentanil, fentanyl, and cocaine. The suspects, identified as John Sims, Tyeisha Kisswani, Robert Day, and Adrian Spooner, face charges including the criminal sale of controlled substances following a long-term investigation by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office Gang Task Force.

Coram man sentenced for weapon and drug possession

David Wilson, a 42-year-old resident of Coram, has been sentenced to ten years in prison and five years of post-release supervision. The sentencing follows his guilty plea in April to charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney made the announcement on October 2, 2024.

East Northport man pleads guilty to child sexual abuse charges

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that Dakota Rose, a 25-year-old resident of East Northport, has pleaded guilty to charges related to the sexual abuse of a toddler and the creation of child pornography. Rose admitted guilt to charges of Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.
