University Orchestra presents Family Concert with Alicja Paruch as soloist

Richard L. McCormick Interim President | Stony Brook University

The University Orchestra, under the direction of Susan Deaver, is set to perform its annual Family Orchestra Concert on February 25 at the Staller Center for the Arts. The concert will begin at 7:30 pm and admission is free.

The event, a staple in the Stony Brook community, promises an engaging one-hour interactive experience with this year's theme, "Orchestral Rhythms!" Attendees can expect a diverse range of orchestral sounds from strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The program includes pieces such as Alfred Reed’s A Festival Prelude and Jerry Brubaker’s That Gershwin Rhythm. Other selections are Vaughan Williams’ March from English Folk Songs and LeRoy Anderson’s The Typewriter. The performance will also feature Shostakovich’s Waltz No. 2 and Copland’s Hoe-Down from Rodeo.

A highlight of the evening will be Alicja Paruch's performance as marimba soloist in Ney Rosauro’s Marimba Concerto.
